5Best webcam out there!May 17, 2009
Ipevo Point of View Cam is my #1 choice for video blogging and chatting. It's easy to look like an amateur on Skype or video blogs. This cam makes you look like a pro. The flexibility & multi focal length allow you to show more than just your face - close up of a small product, how to navigate on a website, display text/pics in a book, a room makeover, etc. The color correcting features allow you to look natural despite room lighting or background features.

This is the cam I use myself, bought for every family member, and recommend to my clients. - Sarah Shah, Image & Media Coach, www.sarahshah.com

4Handy, works - but needs better driver and longer cableMar 11, 2009
I've had this unit for several weeks now and my only complaints are that the USB cable is too short and the driver software (even the latest version as of this writing) is a bit squirrely.

Cable length may be limited by signal strength, so that's somewhat of a nit. But the driver software is hit-or-miss on a power up or reboot. Sometimes the New Hardware Wizard jumps in before POV loads (this is on XP). In that case the Wizard must be canceled and the unit must then be unplugged for a few moments. Plugging it back in usually causes POV to recognize it correctly. This is inconvenient but by no means a show-stopper. Works seamlessly with Skype, which is my primary use. It's also acceptable for recording video, although you may need to do some tweaking with Windows Movie Maker (or equiv.) to get the audio and video to line up.

The image quality is acceptable, but the utilities included in the POV package make up for any lack there. The snapshot and power buttons on the camera itself are also quite handy.

Overall, a good product.

2Good hardware, deficient softwareJan 17, 2009
First, if you buy this item use the software from the company website, not the CD software. You may or may not get software on the CD that installs without problems.

Installed, the unit worked great (well, once it managed to properly install on WinXP-Pro).

The unacceptable problem I ran into was that the Chinese apparently don't feel like they have to adhere to Microsoft guidelines for APIs, which results in some system damage. The most obvious problem in my case is that Flash player won't work with IPEVO installed. I can either use Flash or IPEVO cam, but not both. Re-installing Flash Player causes the IPEVO to stop working, their software can't find the camera although the USB subsystem detects it fine. I suspect the side effects vary with system configuration, one can't tell with dirty software.

The greatest concern is that the Chinese might have replaced patched components with unpatched components and opened security holes (note: I am not saying maliciously, just from developer inability to properly code the software). System security scans (such as PSI Secunia or any of the virus programs) don't necessarily detect such cracks in security.

If the Chinese company gets its software act together, the unit would be 5 star, but with the bad software it is not recommended due to potential security exposures. You may not care about such details, in which case the unit otherwise works very well as advertised.

1VOIP - Point of View Web CameraDec 05, 2008
Not ever owning a computer webcam and being a total novice on this, how difficult is it to install the VOIP Point of View Camera? How simple is it to operate since I will be giving them as Christmas presents to our children/grandchildren who are also novices with web cameras. I have windows XP. Do you have to use VOIP telephone comms.? VOIP POINT OF VIEW WEBCAM

I was looking for a webcam and I've read some reviews and decided to buy the POV by IPEVO. I love it because, yes you can use it like a regular webcam or detach it from its base and use it to show items up close to other recipients. The focus is so easily controlled with one finger. It's a great webcam that has unlimited uses if you're creative enough.
